Blog about what you want! Higher Ed people tend to get waaaaaay too pigeonholed into thinking that only things about higher ed can apply to them. At the end of the day, this is your website and your brand so it should be what you want it to be :-)

I actually think most of your posts are relevant to the higher ed market anyway, particularly the web design/social media part of it.

So maybe it’s not a question of changing your content, but embracing the audience and rebranding the blog somewhat to reflect the direction you’re going anyway.

I think this approach could only help build your reputation as an expert in the field, leading to more speaking engagements, lucrative consulting gigs, and ultimate fame and fortune.

I really enjoy your blog. I think it makes you more “real” because you incorporate things that you find interesting as well as work related links, etc. I, like DW, Brad, and Kyle will continue reading regardless. If you don’t think people are taking you seriously, then maybe a separate blog like Brad has would be a good option for you. For now, if people are using you as a reference, then that’s success to me and I wouldn’t change it.

I agree with D.W. I mean I just put a post yesterday about the Election up. It doesn’t always have to specifically be about higher ed to be informative or valuable.

I know we talked about this on the phone last night, but I’ll try to reiterate for the online conversation: Blog what you want. To me, having the blog under your domain name lets me know that it’s you first, and higher ed second. With me having squaredpeg.com vs. blog.bradjward.com it is easier for me to separate work and life, and that’s not always a bad thing. But like DW says, we’ll keep reading what you write, no matter what.

And really, the whole world needs to know about Guitar Hero. :)
