What is this Twitter thing?

I was interviewed for a newspaper about my use of twitter and I thought I would share my answers since I thought they might be beneficial to some. More to come on the article when it is published.

(Note* some of these answers may seem disjointed, I was just kind of free flowing rather than, tying all the sentences in order.)

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself- a brief, non-specific job
history (no employers needed, just occupations.) What do you do now?
I have been a web designer for about 12 years now, start while I was
in high school and now still at it post college.

2. Are you geeky? Are you Web-savvy?
I suppose geeky in the sense that I know my shit when it comes to
computers but I’m not social inept. Yes, very web savy. I spend most
all the day on computer.

3. How did you find out about Twitter?
I want to say Techcrunch but I’m not 100% sure.

4. When did you start using it?
Approx. Novermber 06. I had already been using it for awhile before it
blew up at SXSW the next March.

5. What were your first impressions?
Well had a little trouble feeling it out, felt like I was a
exhibitionist to people who didn’t care. Then it started to get
sorted out by everyone and became more than just a status update.

6. How do you use Twitter? Personally? Professionally? Both? How do they differ?
Personally I keep in touch with friends give updates. I have a
professional / friend network that is very useful to keep in touch
with. I follow what they do and what they are thinking about / working
on. There is a slim line between work and pleasure for me. I really
enjoy what I do and I’m on the computer all day long. I can use it as
a great source to get feedback on things I am working on. Just send a
quick message and get lots of responses. I have been able to keep in
touch with people that I meet at conferences that I might have
otherwise not have kept up with.

7. What do you like about Twitter?
I like that I can follow and get in the mind of people that inspire
me. It has also become one of my main sources of info. I also like
that it is disjointed so I can just pick up when ever. You can update
from so many sources.

8. What don’t you like, if anything?
Well this isn’t because of the UI for anything like that but now I
feel like I always have to keep up so it can take a lot of time. Some
people feel the need to include stuff that I really don’t care or want
to know. The few times I have enabled it on my cell I got a slew of
text messages. That was expensive. If you are not subscribed to one
person in a conversation it is kind of weird and disjointed.

9. Do you see your Twitter use evolving, i.e. could you see yourself
using Twitter for uses beyond what you do now?
I want to start to use it as more of a branding and news flow for some
side projects I want to get going. I want to use it more as a live
blog which is why I cant wait to get an iPhone when the 2.0 version
comes out. Another implication I am interesting in is how
microblogging will effect blogs and peoples personal sites
