Facebook Groups have got me mad!!!
I want to start with saying that I absolutely love Facebook. I think it is a great social network. I love most everything that it does. I know most non-college students are not members but I think it is worth a look.
Now to my problem:
I run a Facebook group. The best way to get info out to people is though the “Message all Members” function. It send a message to everyone on your list, DUH. However, after you have more than 1000 members in your list this functionality goes away. Which I was not aware of.
I emailed Facebook to ask about this and they told me that they do this do to the possibility of spam and they can’t bend on this rule.
So my thought is, if you are spammed there is a very simple, leave group. Its not like spam where you have to do an unsubscribe which may or may not actually do that. Here is another solution, let a group be able to do a limited numbers of messages 1 per week, or 1 per day 3 per week, whatever.
The problem I see with their stance is that to the people that have really embraced the tool (IE got a lot of users) are then crippled and can’t actually contact their members in any way. There is a the message board or recent news but people have to actively go to the group.
I also wish that there were another passive way to contact members. For example allowing groups to make notes, people can follow them as a feed and they can show up when you login on the feed. This is similar to the Bulletins on Myspace.
Facebook, please help me out!!!
